5 Realistic Resolutions for a Healthier 2020 at the Office

A new year is upon us and we must set our usual resolutions – go to the gym, diet healthier, less caffeine, more sleep. These new resolutions usually last until mid-February before the excitement of the new year ends and we are back to our normal lifestyle. Start something different this year, set office-related resolutions that can be accomplished and will benefit your entire life.

The office is one of the best places to kick-start your New Year’s resolutions for a healthier lifestyle- after all, you are there more than you are at home. We know that staying on track of your resolutions can be a challenge when you work in a busy medical office. So here are five realistic resolutions that you can easily incorporate into your daily life and make your upcoming working year even better.

Learn new things.

Regularly learning new things about your job and improving your skillset can help accomplish your career goals, getting you closer to the promotion you’ve always wanted. Investigate learning opportunities within your company, such as in-house training sessions or relevant courses at the local college. Additionally, there are countless online resources that can help aid you in your journey.

Drink more water.

High water consumption helps improve sleep quality and energy levels, as well as our awareness and alertness. This, in turn, helps us become more productive at work. Studies show that water consumption can help manage chronic illness, reduce the likelihood of dental cavities and decay, and help fight the flu. While it’s easy to forget to drink while you are busy at work, make it a priority in 2020 and stay hydrated.

Get on your feet.

If you can’t get yourself to the gym, why not squeeze in some exercise at work? Don’t rush out and buy a fancy treadmill desk but take some time to move during the workday. You can squeeze in a brisk walk during your lunch break or workout on the clock with simple desk exercises. Your colleagues won’t even realize you’re exercising and you will definitely notice the results.

Start making self-care a priority.

It’s human nature to get caught up doing things for others and forget to do things for yourself. 2020 is your year to make a change and do something for yourself every single day. Whether it’s getting outside for some fresh air, treating yourself to a fancy coffee, or simply taking five minutes to gather your thoughts and reflect. Find that little something that you will look forward to and will make your workday better.

Be positive.

Do you always feel like the grass is always greener on the other side? If so, it’s time to change your mindset into a more positive one. Be grateful for where you are and the job you have. You’re there because you were excited about it at one point so find that former passion and reflect on the positives of your current situation. You’ll be amazed at the difference once you change your attitude just a little.
