5 Tips for Marketing Your Medical Practice During the Holiday Season

Believe it or not, the holidays are an excellent time to market your medical practice!

The season is conducive to joy and good cheer, so patients and employees will be happy to engage, and your marketing dollars will go further.

While the holidays are usually a hectic time for medical practices, don’t let concerns about stress stop you from gaining the benefits of marketing during this most wonderful time of year. The strategy is to simplify your approach and build on all the great things the season already has to offer.

Here are five ways to make marketing more manageable, more fun, and more efficient this holiday season.

Implement exciting holiday-related marketing ideas.

The holiday season is a perfect opportunity to send well-wishes to your patients, show a personal side to your practice, and boost your bottom line. Implement some fun and timely strategies to engage your current patients and attract some new ones. Some ideas include:

Freshen up your website.

A fun and festive logo will spread holiday cheer and help you connect with your patients. Take it a step further and add holiday themes and photos to your social media pages, as well.

If your healthcare practice has a blog (and it should!), this is the perfect time to write a series of posts that pertain to the season. Topics may include ways to stay healthy around the holidays, how to deal with holiday stress, healthy holiday recipes, and more. These posts will be a helpful resource to your patients and can help drive traffic to your website.

Spice up your newsletter.

Adding a bit of holiday spirit to your newsletter is a subtle, warm, and impactful form of marketing, and it’s easier than ever to do. Most email service providers usually offer pre-made templates to match the seasons.

Even simply adding a holiday image or two to your website, blogs, social media pages, or emails makes your practice look warm and festive, and it has the added benefit of making your channels look fresh and up to date.

Decorate the office.

Decorating your office for the season helps staff and patients alike feel less stressed and more festive. If you’re short on ideas, there is a ton of fun inspiration online for decorating medical offices, creative ideas that also engage your staff and keep them feeling festive all season.

Remember the reason for the season.

Make sure this doesn’t feel like just one more task on an overloaded to-do list. Marketing during the holidays can become one more source of stress, so be careful. The key to avoiding that feeling is to have fun, involve your team, and use marketing to express your practice’s gratitude, personality, and mission.

You don’t have to launch a major project or spend a lot of money. Little touches of holiday spirit help everyone in your practice, and every one your practice cares for while reminding us all why we celebrate the holidays in the first place. And that is the kind of message you want your marketing efforts to send!

  • As a speaker at the first ad hoc meeting of rheumatology practice managers gathered in a single small room at its infancy a decade ago, I’m amazed to see how NORM has blossomed into a high energy organization of depth and professional meetings with parallel break-out symposia between plenary sessions. NORM has truly come of age. This is where the “business” of rheumatology gets learned. The ”guildmanship” for rheumatology practice management is now strong.- Paul H. Caldron, DO, FACP, FACR, MBA, Arizona Arthritis and Rheumatology Associates
  • In a time of demanding changes in the management of medical practices in the US, NORM has been a lifesaver to the community of Rheumatology practices.  NORM has allowed our practice to stay ahead of the many demands of CMS and others payors and has ensured that our practice remains cognizant of new issues that arise in HIPPA compliance, human resources and medical billing to name a few. Sending our Practice Manager to NORM's conferences has been cost-effective and beneficial to our practice because she returns to our office with an abundance of information that otherwise would have taken months to compile. Every Rheumatology practice that wishes to stay on top of emerging issues in practice management should consider sending a member of their staff to NORM's conference.- Michael S. Rosen M.D., Chester County Rheumatology PC
  • Thanks to all those wonderful people in the NORM Network who respond to emails, offering their advice, experience, time, and support ... I haven't even been a member a full year yet and I am amazed at the dedication of everyone who responds to helping via emails and the NORM Organization itself! I have barely had a chance to explore the resources and I have yet to really dive into requests for help still I am silently learning so much and do occasionally offer what I can! Thank you all!- Cheryl Piambino, Kenneth E. Bresky, DO
